In the fourth successive breach of ceasefire in 36 hours, Pakistan rangers fired at Indian border posts in Ramgarh sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning.
No casualty has been reported so far, officials said. The firing from the Pakistan side continued for over 15 minutes.
A BSF officer said, “There was firing by Pakistani Rangers on Narianpur Border Out Post (BoP) in Ramgarh forward area in Samba district around 7.30 am.” The firing came from the Ashraf post of Pakistan. The BSF troops guarding the border line retaliated effectively, resulting in exchanges, he said.
In view of the escalation in the border tension, BSF director general Subash Joshi visited forward areas along the international border in Jammu and reviewed the security situation there.
Sources said firing from Pakistan troops had been reported for past three days despite continuation of diplomatic dialogues between India and Pakistan after the August 6 incident in which Pakistan army had intruded 400 metres inside the India territory and gunned down five Indian soldiers on patrol duty in the Poonch sector.
The audacious attack had rocked Parliament with the opposition demanding a firm response from the Indian side and pressurising it to boycott the meeting scheduled between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of United Nation General Assembly in September this year.
However, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh decided to go on with the dialogue.
