Anti-superstition activist Dabholkar shot dead

MUMBAI: Anti-superstition activist Narendra Dabholkar was on Tuesday shot dead by unknown assailants in Pune, DNA reports.
According to reports, Dabholkar was gunned down when he was on his daily morning walk. He later succumbed to injuries in Sassoon Hospital in Pune.
Known for his strong anti-superstition stance, Dabholkar, the state president of Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (ANS), fought againstsuperstition and inhuman rituals in the state.
A promoter of the inclusion of scientific temper in the society, the activist led many campaigns in the state against several forms of superstitions, black magic and animal sacrifices.
A few months earlier, Dabholkar took on the spiritual leader Asaram Bapu for wasting many litres of water during a pre-Holi function in Maharashtra.
Dabholkar had censured the spiritual leader for wasting water when millions of people in the state are starving due to lack of water.
The activist also vehemently tried to push the state legislators for an anti-superstition bill to be passed in the assembly.
