At least one person was killed and 25 others were injured as citizens resorted to aerial firing                       across Karachi to celebrate the country’s Independence Day, officials said on Wednesday.
                       Firing was also reported in certain areas of Rawalpindi though there were no reports of                              anyone getting hurt.
                       The day dawned with special flag hoisting ceremonies in Islamabad and the four provincial                         capitals.
                        UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was the chief guest at the Independence
                        Day celebration in Islamabad. He participated in the flag hoisting ceremony with Prime                                Minister Nawaz Sharif.
                        In his address Mr. Sharif promised to fix all problems and put Pakistan on the path to                                 development.
